Melissa Johansen, NCTM
Melissa Johansen is a Nationally Certified Piano Teacher who maintains a full piano studio in the Deer Creek School District of NW Oklahoma City. Melissa holds a Bachelors of Music Education from Oklahoma Baptist University. Melissa also holds certification in Kodaly, Orff and is Trained Independent Facilitator of Parenting the Love and Logic Way. Melissa has studied piano with Linda Wiles, Sandra Meyer and Dr Carole Bell. In addition to her private piano studio, Melissa is the music teacher for Spring Creek Mother's Day Out program, teaching bi-weekly classes to children 15 months - Pre K. Melissa is also the Children's Music Director, Handbell Director and the pianist at Spring Creek. Melissa is currently serving as the OMTA VP for Local Associations, the COMTA President and the COMTA VP for Membership. Melissa also serves as the OMTA Edmond District Achievement Auditions Chair and is a founder and Administrator for COMTA's Kamp Keyboard. In 2022 Melissa was honored as an OMTA Fellow for her dedication and volunteer work in the Central Okalhoma Music Teachers Association.
Melissa and her husband, Andrew, have been married since Dec 31, 1997. Andrew works for Forward In Technology as the Executive IT Services Manager. They have two children, Emma (2003) and Carter (2005). Emma is a student at William Jewell College as a double major in Vocal Performance and Non-Profit Leadership. Carter is a student at the University of Tulsa as a double major in Psychology and English. They also have a wonderful puppy, Leia, who is loved by all of the piano students as well.
